YOUR HOST – THE VENUE
Hastekasen Farm association (HFA) is the host of the event. We work together with Mondiala entertainment, and Gimle player association.
Hastekasen is a living eco-community where people live year round doing such things as natural building and small scale farming with some animals. There is also a lot of nature and adventure activities happening here. HFA is also doing some Erasmus activities and also receives volunteers with the EU-ESC system.
The Gimle Larp is the biggest event of the year for HFA and lots of our activities the rest of the year is a preparation for this great collaborative festivity of adventure, social experiment, acting, music, dancing, handicraft and enjoyment of storytelling and nature.
The location is on the west coast of Sweden close to the sea. The farm has 12 hectare of property and a 100 hectare forest adjacent. The area is divided into an OFF area with a main house (where people live) and many sheds (where people live) and a social food garden. There are some fields and sheep.
The IN area is about 7 hektar, it contains rocky hills, fields, forest, a few ponds. But most of all it contains some 20 structures that creates a fantasy land. It starts with the village Gimleby, (that is part of the farms: Blacksmith, handicraft area, fire dungeon, Tavern, storage (merchant)) all built with an intention of looking medieval (or at least 1800´s).

HISTORY OF THE LARP
2014, Sebastian, an old RPG and board game enthusiast decided to explore larping. He soon found out that Sweden was missing a perfect area for medieval/fantasy larping. A place far from civilization, but close enough for public transport, a place with beautiful fields and hills and a body of water where boats could sail and sea tribes settle. Good roads and parking available.
Sebastian drove 3000 km around the western parts of Sweden looking for an area. Contacted many land owners, had high level meetings with two municipalities, and with state forest owner Sveaskog. It led to nothing.
2015 Sebastian found a big piece of land with many good dirt roads and a big lake, and an owner that was open to build a permanent “viking” village.
2016 a larp was held in this place. A house and a bridge was built, military tents assembled, canoes and even a boat was brought in. 100 “larpers” performed the first version of Gimle. That first larp was called Gimleby and was a viking/fantasy larp. 40 swedish came and 60 participants from a European Erasmus project joined. The larp had the ambition to be an educational-larp. In many aspects it was a disaster. Sebastian overrated his own ability, and his expectations on the players ability to co-create was too high. Maybe 2/3 of the participants where beginners. But there exists still many fond memories of amazing scenes from this first larp, mainly thanks to some participants taking over the roles that the organizer should have had. The owner of the land had some major social shortcomings and further collaboration was impossible. Gimle had no game-area.
Sebastian “realized” that he all the time had been the owner of 11 hektar of land, and even though there was no lake or active stream, it could work as a larp area. The two participants that saved the 2016 larp: Patrycja (Pati) and Andreas joined the organizing team and 2017 the upgraded Gimle #2 was held. This time as a medieval fantasy larp inspired by LOTR, GOT. A parallel project developing educational larping was started, organized by the association “Hästekasen Gård”
Gimle has since then been held every year at July´s full moon. Today the game area includes over 30 structures, a little village and a nice OFF area where the eco-collective of Hästekasen Gård resides. Gimle has over the years seen some 800 participants and many traditions and stories have been taken along into the future – building a deeper lore for every year. The ratio of beginners is down to 1/3 and ten people have joined the organizing team.
